Kelly Clarkson wants to clear her name.

The “Piece by Piece” singer recently appeared on Andy Cohen’s “Watch What Happened,” where she answered a fan’s question about some fan questions related to Clive Davis’ 2013 memoir, “The Soundtrack of My Life.”

Famed music producer Davis Clarkson said he broke down in “huge tears” when he asked her to include his song “U Been Gone” on her 2004 album “Breakaway.”

But Clarkson says that’s not what it came down to at all.

Clarkson joked on Cohen’s show last week, “Let’s give you some backstory, Davis.” They lied to me, and they said, ‘Hey, there are these producers who want to work with you.’

She also said that “U Been Gone” had “dummy lyrics” at that stage of the songwriting process and she was “told to write the song.”

“[They] I flew to Sweden, I got there and these two guys, [producers Max Martin and Łukasz ‘Dr. Luke’ Gottwald]They weren’t told I wrote it, and now it’s just written,” Clarkson said. “And I look stupid, because I walked in and the label told me something completely different.”

“And I think that’s a red flag. Why are you lying to me like this? She said she “doesn’t like the lies.”

“So I feel bad about the song because of the origin story,” she explained.

Despite the drama surrounding the song, Clarkson says it’s still “fun as hell to sing.”

When asked if she could separate the song from the bag with Davis, Clarkson said, “Oh, I’m a great fraction.” “I can put that aside, and sing the hell out of it on tour.”

Clarkson said of Davis’ account of the situation at the time, that his story was “absolutely not true.”

“The stories and the songs are mixed,” she said in a statement shared on social media platform WhoSay in 2013. “I wanted more guitars on the first demo and Clive didn’t. [Martin and Gottwald] And still I fought for a big voice and we won and I couldn’t be prouder of this song life. I was disappointed that he weakened that song in any way.

She elaborated on her strained working relationship with Davis in her post and once told of crying in his office.

“I cried after playing ‘Because of You,’ a song I wrote about my life,” Clarkson said. “I cried because I hated him and he verbally told me that I should be grateful for the gifts he gave me because I was a sh*t writer.”

“She went on about how the song doesn’t speak and I should just sing,” she said. Very honored to work with. But I kept fighting for the song and the label relented. And it became an international hit. He did not include it in the book.

In response, Davis said at the time, “I’m very saddened by this. [Clarkson] He decided to resolve the issue that I knew would be a true reflection of our time together. Before the book was published, I checked each fact with five independent individuals from each day.
