A few minutes into the game, Luka Doncic sprained his left ankle when he stepped on the foot of a Sans defender.

Luka Doncic stepped on the feet of a Suns defender and immediately came rolling in the first quarter of Thursday’s game in Phoenix.

The new All-Star left the next possession of the game and was later announced by the team as not returning to the game due to a strain on his left ankle. X-rays were negative.

Dallas coach Jason Kidd said Doncic was in “good spirits” after the game.

“It looked good, it looked good,” Kidd said. But we’ll see how he feels going forward.

Luka Doncic sprained his ankle in the 1st quarter against the Phoenix Suns.

Doncic, the architect of the Suns’ 64-win second-round upset of last season’s playoffs, currently leads the league in scoring with 33.8 points per game. The 23-year-old Slovenian enters the game having been announced as a Western Conference starter for the 2023 All-Star Game, his third career start and fourth All-Star honor.

The Mavericks, already without big men Christian Wood and Maxi Kleber, entered the game tied for sixth with Phoenix.
