Aaron Rodgers expressed emotion as the Jets’ quarterback continued to praise ayahuasca in a conference call, saying he’s been ‘on a ritual’ with his teammates after ‘hundreds’ of NFL players have asked him about his psychedelic use.

On Wednesday, Rogers, 39, attended the Psychedelic Science 2023 conference in Denver, Colorado, where he opened up about his experience with ayahuasca — a psychoactive and restorative drink used among traditional socialites and as a ritualistic or shamanic spiritual treatment. Indigenous people living in the Amazon basin.

The infection causes altered states of consciousness, often known as ‘psychedelic experiences’, which include visual hallucinations and altered perceptions of reality.

The 2011 Super Bowl (XLV) champion and four-time NFL MVP said Rodgers, ‘I’ve been lucky enough to sit with my teammates over the last few years.’

‘I’m telling you, it’s life-changing and it’s wild to be in the locker room and watch and know like I was in Maloka. [an ancestral long house used by indigenous people of the Amazon] With you, man. It is very special. It changes the dynamic, for sure.

Rodgers, left, and Jets cornerback Sous Gardner pretended to smoke in practice in early June.

‘And in the process, like I said, there were hundreds of NFL guys that arrived. […] It was great to be able to meet people who have done this work or are fascinated by it and want to know more about it.’

Rogers went to look grateful and ‘thank you for these opportunities’ because for him “it changes the dynamic when you are in the same room with someone, you hug with someone, in a group with another person, it’s you. Talking and as a person I was with you and it’s my brother.”

Speaking with Aubrey Markus – founder of Onnit, a ‘holistic health-based’ global disruptive brand, and psychiatry advocate – Rogers pledged to support the legal integration of serotonergic hallucinogens in modern-day society.

“We have an opportunity to change the conversation by dispelling these ancient myths about their risks or negative side effects or whatever, and start sharing the real wisdom and truth about it,” said Jet’s new field general.

‘It’s a license for other people to stand up, to talk about their own experiences, to join in and sink in and learn about it. And I think that’s the way we’re going to move this conversation forward, where more people are going there, they’re comfortable talking about their own journeys. Their spiritual journey, their medicinal journey, their rituals.

‘So we can bring this to people who need it.’

Rodgers, who joined the Jets in April, credits Ayahuasca for his longevity on the American football scene.

Rogers first spoke about his experiences with ayahuasca on Aubrey Marcus’ podcast in August 2022, before appearing on The Joe Rogan Experience that same month, to talk about the benefits he’s gotten from the psychoactive drink.

He says that using psychedelics can help overcome depression by teaching people to love themselves.

‘[…] When you dissolve the ego, the amount of love you can return to yourself and to other people, to me, to myself and to others, removes a lot of judgment, the difference between myself and others.

When I came out of that and went back to “reality” or whatever, my biggest sense of connection was overwhelming. It’s like, ‘Oh s***, now here’s the combination. This is my reflection of myself and you, we are all so deeply connected.’

Rogers says taking psychedelics can help cure depression by teaching self-care.

Last year, lawmakers in Colorado pushed to decriminalize the use of psychedelic mushrooms after the state capital, Denver, decriminalized psilocybin mushrooms in 2019.

Former Texas Governor Rick Perry has also supported research into psychiatric medication for PTSD in US military veterans. The Texas Tribune.

Psychedelic Science 2023 is a five-day conference hosted by the Multidisciplinary Society for Psychedelic Studies, the largest advocacy group in the US with major research sites in Boulder and Fort Collins.

In addition to Rogers and Perry, guests at the summit included Whole Foods co-founder John Mackey, National Institute of Mental Health director Joshua Gordon and rapper Jaden Smith, son of controversial Academy Award winner Will Smith.

The conference dates are June 19-23.
