Former Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton believes he has one of the best 32 pass catchers in the NFL as he enters his 13th year, his first with the Carolina Panthers.

If Dalton didn’t carry that mindset, he still wouldn’t be in the league, although he admits when he wants to start, he’s more than happy to help the next pass rusher.

“I’m like a rookie in this league; I don’t think there’s 32 guys better than me,” Dalton said, according to Mac Engle of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “But that’s where I’m at, and I understand that. I watch football on TV, not thinking that I’m one of the best 32, or that I’m a little down.”

With the Panthers, Dalton will help recruit No. 1 mentor Bryce Young. Before that, he spent one season in Chicago, alongside Justin Fields, and before that served as Dak Prescott’s backup in Dallas.

Bengals fans haven’t been shy about asking if Dalton has a coaching future. He’s not quite there yet, but his current direction of serving as a professional backup to young pitchers certainly looks like things are headed there.
