NFL free agent Leonard Fournette’s SUV burst into flames last month when another driver ‘raced’ on a Florida highway, sparking questions about the Super Bowl champion’s role in the crash.

Fournette described the accident on social media on June 27, saying, ‘The car caught fire while I was driving,’ and said he was uninjured.

Photos posted on social media by Fournette showed the charred vehicle smoking on the highway median.

The 28-year-old former Tampa Bay Buccaneers star told officers he was ‘having trouble with his vehicle,’ according to a police report obtained by TMZ.

However, an eyewitness said Fournette was ‘racing when a fire started under the wheel’.

Fournette was driving at a ‘high speed’ before the car caught fire, witnesses said.
Free agent running back Leonard Fournette released the video after his car caught fire.

The Florida Highway Patrol did not immediately respond to DailyMail.com’s request for crash records.

An FHP spokesperson told TMZ there is insufficient information to continue an investigation into Fournette.

A spokesperson told TMZ: ‘No further action is anticipated at this point.

It looks like Fournette bought this car recently – with the black exterior, red and black interior and custom wheels.

It is not known where he was when it caught fire and he did not say what caused the car to catch fire.

The car in the video appears to match the Dodge Durango Hellcat posted in May

It’s unclear what the Hellcat SUV package buys — or how much it will cost to customize it, but the vehicles will start in the $93K to $104K range.

It hasn’t been the easiest of times for Fournette, who asked to leave the Buccaneers after the season ended. Tampa did just that in March.

Fournette told the Tampa Bay Times that Tom Brady’s retirement was tied to his decision to walk away from the Bucks.

Last season, Fournette rushed for just 668 yards in 16 games and averaged 3.5 yards per carry. His total rushing yards are the same as Giants quarterback Daniel Jones and running back Latavius Murray – who spent the 2022 season with two teams.

Since leaving LSU and being drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars, the fourth overall pick in 2017, he has amassed over 4,400 yards and 34 rushing touchdowns.
