The Chicago Bears will soon learn when they will play their opponents in the 2023 season, but we do know the amount of travel required throughout the year. Now that the internationals have been announced, the Bears are not included in the table and we know how far they will travel to play all their games this year. It turned around.

According to Bill Sprouse of bookies.com, the Bears will travel 12,253 air miles to play all 17 games. That’s the third fewest in the league behind the Green Bay Packers (11,956) and the Cincinnati Bengals (11,942). The Seattle Seahawks lead the league in having to travel 31,600 miles. Speros calculates the data using air miles between each stadium.

The low total isn’t shocking to the Bears. Considering they’re in the middle of the country and the other three teams are in a division a few hundred miles away from them, it makes sense that they won’t have to travel far for many games. The Bears will have a pair of long trips as they head west to face the Los Angeles Chargers and south to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New Orleans Saints. Otherwise, their schedule is favorable from a long-term perspective.

Does less travel help when it comes to winning and losing? It can’t hurt, but it wasn’t exactly the reason last season. According to Speros, the Bears had the same rate of travel in 202210,086 air miles flown. That was again at the bottom of the league, but they finished the season with a 3-14 record, worst in the NFL.

However, when they travel for road games, they want the team to rest and refresh. Having shorter flights helps with this. It’s a small win for the Bears ahead of their full schedule, which starts Thursday night at 7 pm CT.
