What to consider when buying a smart watch

The first and most obvious thing to consider is which smartphone platform you need it to be compatible with. For example – if you are using an Android phone, you cannot buy an Apple Watch. Similarly, some modern Wear OS watches from Samsung and Pixel Watch do not support iPhone. Brands like Huawei, Garmin and Fitbit are multi-platform and support both iPhone and Android.

Another key thing to consider is what you intend to use it for. For example, if you want detailed analysis and data from your outdoor running, cycling and walking sessions, you might look for a Garmin or Huawei watch. If you want daily fitness and health tracking like touch payment, music streaming and interactive notifications, Apple Watch or Samsung Galaxy Watch are your best choice.

Design and sustainability are also key considerations. If you’re outdoors a lot and want something that can withstand harsh environments, you’ll want something that’s not only waterproof to a high standard, but also extremely resistant and durable. Of course, if you mostly just wear it to the office, in relatively informal situations, you probably don’t need a big, bulky machine.

Then there’s battery life. Don’t buy an Apple Watch, Pixel Watch, or Samsung Galaxy if your lifestyle means you’ll last more than a day without a charger, or if you don’t want to charge your watch every day. Take a look. Again you want something from Garmin or Huawei.
