Following Boseman’s passing, Marvel Studios had some difficult choices to make regarding the character and title of Black Panther, which had to focus much of the plot on Shuri, Ramonda, Okoye and Mbaku as the lead quartet.

But before those changes came, Marvel wasn’t really limiting the number of lead heroes in a series to just one.

Speaking of the Empire podcast, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Star Letitia Wright revealed that Marvel Studios was planning to have Shuri and Chadwick Boseman’s T-Challa as Black Panther at the same time.

When asked how she felt about wearing the dress for the first time, Wright shared that it was a bittersweet moment. “Shuri used to do it all the time.” She explains that she and Boseman agree with each other to figure out how to defend Wakanda together:

Empire: “I guess there’s a lot of weight attached to that outfit for a lot of reasons. Can you talk to me about your feelings when you walk up in that outfit and what was the reaction?

Wright: “It was bittersweet. Shuri always did it. But it’s done in a different way than when her brother is with her. Explore T’Challa and Shuri’s paths like in the comic books. They try to figure out how to protect their people as Black Panthers.”

After Wright passed Boseman, she understood the moment’s responsibility, though she struggled to come to terms with the situation. “Very proud” In what she did:

“But unfortunately it wasn’t like that. I know the responsibility, I know the weight, but it was bittersweet, it’s something I struggled with a lot. But I’m very proud of myself, I’ve had a lot of support.”

Although Letitia Wright has to accept the challenge of being Black Panther in this series, it looks like she will have to play the same role no matter what happens in real life.
