Joe Coy has nothing but love for his ex Chelsea Handler.

“She’s a beautiful person, and you know, we’re still friends,” Coy, who serves as one of the producers on the Broadway production, said Thursday.

“It’s been a beautiful time,” he added, about a year into their relationship, and now she’s doing beautiful things. She’s crushing it right now, so I have nothing but the best love for her.”

Handler and Coy — who worked together years ago on The Comedian’s Late Show; Chelsea recently — They went public with their relationship on Instagram in September 2021 and split until June 2022, one year before their anniversary.

Their relationship was revealed at the end of December when the inspector appeared on Brook Shields what now Podcast.

“At the end of the relationship, it became clear that this was not my man,” she told the model actress.

As for what exactly happened to end the relationship, Handler kept it vague, but said, “It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done.”

“There were certain behaviors we couldn’t agree on and I felt like I had to give myself up — maybe it would have been better if I was 20 or 25 — but I wasn’t willing to do that,” she recalls. “No matter how much I loved this man – and I loved him so much – I didn’t give up on myself. I was like: “I’m not going to change this, I’m not going to change my behavior to make you feel more comfortable. I’m not doing this.” And I had to walk away from what I believed was going to be a forever relationship, and that was hard.

According to Handler, the couple tried therapy and “every way I could think of and then I realized, ‘This is futile.’

At the time, Handler said the couple hadn’t spoken in a while, but she was hopeful for the future.

“I don’t think we can have a friendship unless there’s accountability and some responsibility,” she explained. “We had a great friendship, and I’d love to have that again, you know, but if a couple don’t go in the right direction, I don’t see that happening.”
