A SWAT standoff is happening right now in northwest Albuquerque. Around midnight Wednesday, officers heard about an exchange of gunfire in the area of Ladera Drive and St. Joseph Drive. Officers said one person was injured at the scene. That man was taken to the hospital. During the investigation, police identified a suspect in an apartment on Coors Boulevard, south of Paseo del Norte Boulevard. When officers arrived, the man refused to come out. The Albuquerque Police Department’s SWAT and Crisis Intervention Teams were called in around 5 a.m. Thursday to extricate the man. Police are asking the public to evacuate the area.
